East London born Fashion Illustrator Di Murphy brings a background in fine art installation to fashion. Based in south London, been everywhere (via broadband!) but loving London, here and now.
Sketching since the day she could pick up a pencil, she draws anything and everything related to fashion. . . inspired by clothes, the texture of fabric - especially on the human body, and picking up ideas from decadent interiors, her work embraces a handmade, tactile quality with a touch of glamour and confidence.
In Di Murphy’s world, images are everywhere - drawings, sketches and illustrations; the archive is always growing. Specific shots from magazines, the web, and photo’s are all distilled into her work. Her studio is a home for pens, ink, spraypaint, screenprint, markers, pencil, chalk charcoal, amongst other materials.
The result? . . . well-crafted images of strong lines and selective colours, with combinations of unrefined textures and interweaving layers embracing ornate motifs and gothic fonts.
